• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Julia C -- HIGHLY RECOMMEND! : I pre-ordered this book because a friend had told me about Murisa Harba’s acting school in L.A. and I’ve been thinking of signing up for her classes. Well, it did not disappoint! This book has been awesome. Such a fun and easy read! I’ve tried all the acting methods and none of them work for me consistently. I often end up overthinking it. What I love about this book is that she focuses on teaching you how to show up as your best self/actor every single time. Most books ignore this point but consistency is critical to be a professional actor. Instead of dressing up in a suit to play a character, which can get exhausting, you tap into yourself to mesh and become ONE with the character. You can’t achieve that without really understanding yourself first. It’s a really special method that I wish I had learned years ago. If you’re a student or a pro, I think it’s definitely worth the read. And her writing style is so relatable!! It feels like I just hung out with a friend. Like a lot of performers, I struggled with trying to use five (sometimes more) different techniques I’d learned to approach a performance without a unifying strategy that would allow me to deliver every time. Here Murisa shares the approach she employs with her students and herself with the rest of the world and it is both easy to understand and emotionally powerful. Thank you! In order to do that, you need to understand people. Murisa's teaching and observations do just that. She makes you inquisitive about the human condition, about seeing people beyond bias; their 'WHY'. This book helps SO MUCH with creating a game plan to see the actors script from a birds eye view and to connect it to a road map of actions using chakras and widening expectations for your character. Those are all great but I can't say I open them that often. I have a feeling I will pick up Acting with Energy every time I get an audition or a new part. It's an easy read from start to finish but it's also organized in a way that makes it easy refer back to specific ideas. On a technical note, I read the book on my iPhone X; I found Kindle's voice-to-speech option handy so I could listen to it, then read those sections later.
